Persistence
It’s a heart-numbing pain
Persistent in its pursuit to damage me
Like the stroke of your palm across my face
The burn of your fingertips trailing my skin
Branding abuse and wasted time
Tears that trace curves of imperfection
Perspiring into sighs of relieved ambiguity
Anxious at the sound of your bellowing rage
I close my eyes and reminisce of nightmares
Scolding showers can’t seem to cleanse your spoils
Every inch tastes like something false you conjured up
Shadowing paths of truthful deceit
You could never truly look me in the eyes
Somewhere in you lay a broken heart
And it’s your reparation to see that I hurt just as much
So you ravage my remains like the savage you are
Thieving fairytale love affairs
Through passion that falls short of anything more meaningful than lust
A rush of sexual deficiency
Limited to the anger you use foremost for adrenaline
Because nothing can turn you on
Like the sight of a defeated innocence lost in translation
Giving in to your cruelty because help is a million miles away
Outside of walls plastered with stolen photographs
Of women you wish I would become
Submissive and docile
The kind that ask no questions
And grovel at your feet, kissing the pavement you walk on
Instead I bereave of a stolen freedom
Embezzled by your polished hands
Pillaging away at a love I almost chose to give you
Freely and uninhibited
Because your words had seduced me
Reducing me to the naïve fool I spent years trying to forget
Careless
Falling helpless to a heart-numbing pain
Persistent in its pursuit to damage me
